Maker Introduction

As you may already know, E.Lo Ceramic Art is a one-woman show where everything is done by me, Emily.

I first started with ceramics when I was 12 years old. I had always been a creative kid, but I never gravitated toward drawing. When I was little, I thought that meant I couldn't be an artist. My mother enrolled me in a wheel throwing camp at the Ann Arbor Art Center, and I realized almost immediately that clay was the medium for me. After taking numerous classes at the center and working at various local art centers, I eventually attended the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI. I earned a degree in Crafts with a focus on ceramics and a minor in Jewelry Metals.

My current line of colorful slipcast ceramics began in 2017 after I was laid off from my full-time job as a mold maker. Losing my job was one of those things in life that is a “blessing in disguise” after I realized that I had not made any of my own work in over a year. I dedicated myself to designing and mold making for my own work and started participating in art fairs halfway through the 2018 season.

I create ceramics and participate in art fairs full-time while also working part-time at Thistle & Bess in the Kerrytown district of Ann Arbor, Michigan. My work is also available in shops around the world. Visit my stockist page to find a store near you.

Thank you for taking the time to read this introduction to myself and my ceramics business, I appreciate your support.
